February is the month for love
February was another busy month with lots of love in the air. I had the pleasure of photographing a mommy-to-be just a few days before her baby boy arrived, as well as being a part of Andrew and Annette's winter wedding in Prince George. Valentine's Day was the perfect excuse to put on a sale for couples and we had a lot of fun creating fun and romantic portraits of three great couples.

Favorites of January 09
Surprisingly, this winter has been pretty busy. I'm usually bored out of my mind in the snowy months, but this year I've had lots of clients willing to tromp through snow or work in their homes with natural window light, so the work has stayed pretty steady. Here are some of my favorites from January.

Sabrina's having another baby!
Sabrina and I have been best friends since we were 4 years old. I was in the delivery room when her first baby was born, and I get to be there again this go round. Sabrina came in for maternity photos when she was 6 months pregnant. These are all taken with natural window light in my parent's basement. Gotta love it. So much better than studio lighting!

Sizzlin' Sexy Shots for Dave & Dallin's Engagement Shoot
My brother and his fiance Dallin are getting married in July. Dallin is a model so she was ready to try anything. It was fun because we got some great fashiony stuff that lots of my clients aren't open to. I got to play with the colours and the lines and poses . . . right up my alley. They had fun, we got soaking wet in the snow and froze, but it was a very thrilling photo shoot for me and I was ecstatic to do some work that represents my style so closely.

Matthew & Kristi - All the Prep
Kristi and the girls got ready at her parent's house in Chilliwack. It is a beautiful home, perfect as a backdrop to the photos of Kristina. She was stunning, and her dress suited her perfectly. I really enjoyed getting to try some new things and use her own growing-up home for the photos. It was very personal.

Matthew & Kristi's formals
Matthew and Kristi's formals were done in Chilliwack where they got married. It was a little park near Kristi's house and the church. It was tricky to get good light because it was just the time of day when the light shone right in my lens. Thank goodness I had Katie there to help me out because she saved the day with her running around making things work. My brother looked amazing on his wedding day, and treated Kristi like a princess. I was very proud of him.

Anticipating the Wedding Day
Jason and Lisa are getting married in September, so they asked me to do some engagement photos for them. We did them out on my parent's property in January in the snow. They are fantastic with each other, no fake smiles here. They have great chemistry, which was apparent in the simple way they looked at each other and connected in front of the camera. I hardly had to give any direction. I'm looking forward to the wedding day!

Jeff & Amber Getting Ready in Wells
I was hired to photograph Jeff and Amber's wedding in wells and barkerville in January. I knew it would be a unique wedding just because of that fact alone. Wells is known for how much snow it gets in the winter. But it was also a unique day because of the couple themselves. They fit well together, were both incredible in front of the camera, and very at ease throughout the day. It was a lot of fun, and I got to do some things I'd never done on a wedding shoot, including riding a snowmobile.
I arrived at Wells in the morning to catch the preparations. The girls were running behind and didn't show up until half an hour before the ceremony was set to start, so they had to get dressed in a hurry. By the time they walked the block from the hotel to the hall, the snow was coming down in great big flakes and they were slipping and sliding everywhere in their heals. It was a very memorable day.

A Winter Wonderland Wedding
The wells hall looked absolutely stunning decorated in snow flakes, feathers, blue rose petals and pine boughs. Jeff's aunt did an incredible job. The bride walked through the doors in her long cape and I swear, no one even breathed. It was a beautiful moment, followed by a beautiful ceremony in which Jeff pledged himself to his adopted son. We were all teary over that one!

Freezing Formals
Thank goodness it was only about -5 or so that day because I lost my gloves somewhere in all the excitement of the day and we were out there for about 3 hours. Carrying my metal tripod with bare fingers was not my idea of a way to stay warm! But the quaint little town of Barkerville covered in snow made a gorgeous backdrop for the photos and the adrenaline kept me warm. Not to mention the hot chocolate that the groom's mom gave me during family photos, that I found out later was spiked with brandy. yup, that helped too. :) The wedding party and the bride and groom (especially Amber) were real troopers and we got some great shots despite the many feet of snow.

Amber & Jeff's Reception
The reception was beautifully decorated just like the rest of the day had been. There was lots of laughter and fun and a great dance. Everyone was still going at it by the time I left for the drive back to Quesnel. The town cop pulled me over about 1 minute after I started my car up to make sure I hadn't been drinking. At first he didn't believe my reasoning of being the photographer, but then he said, "oh, I guess that might make for some blurry pictures." I was like, "yeah, I would never take the chance." So he told me to drive safe and I braved the snow storm back to Q-town.

An evening at the graveyard
A fellow photographer and I went out the other night just to shoot some random artsy photos and we ended up in the graveyard. We had a 'casual' goal of capturing something that depicted transparency. It was a fun place to experiment with light and the old tombstones are really beautiful. Here are my favorite shots of the night.
